Death of Elizabeth Hazard, after 1891, wife of James Meggison
« on: Sunday 28 August 05 20:47 BST (UK) »

Elizabeth was alive on the 1891 Census for Westoe.  James died in 1897 but don't know about Elizabeth. Possible place of death is Sunderland or South Shields.
Thanks for any information.

I thought this was Elizabeth at first, but Elizabeth was born in 1829, so that would make her  only 73 in 1902.  So I guess not.  If someone had the 1901 Census, and she is alive and living with one of her children, we would know that she died after 1901.  Her children are Margaret (married to Thomas Hazard), Ann (don't know husband), Robert (don't know spouse), Elizabeth Jane (don't know spouse), Mary (don't know spouse), Elizabeth (born 1864 ?spouse), James, Jane, Robert (Boltin) Meggison, Dorothy (married John Cosgrove), George and John Anderson Meggison.
Not too much help with not knowing spouses.  Elizabeth's husband James Meggison died in 1897 in Sunderland (South Shields) and on the 1891 Census lived in Westoe.
Thanks for your help.

The start of a process of elimination...!

She wasn't with

60 Burleigh Street, Sunderland

Thomas Hazard, Head, 60, Fisherman, Sunderland
Margaret Hazard, Wife, 47, Sunderland

RG13/4720 Pg 46

So I'm looking for Elizabeth Hazard and not Meggison?

Maiden name is Hazard, but probably on the census and on the death notice would be Meggison.  Elizabeth's daughter Margaret Meggison married Thomas Hazard, probably a relative, thinking a cousin.  So would need to know Elizabeth's siblings to try to find Thomas.
At any rate, Elizabeth was not living with her daughter Dorothy and husband John Cosgrove in 1901 either.  The rest is harder to find as don't have the spouses.
Thanks for the information on Thomas and Margaret.
I'm so sorry, I should have posted for the death of Elizabeth Meggison.

Hi Emma,
I'm wondering if Robert Hazard might be Thomas's brother.  Time of marriage is close to Thomas's marriage (Thomas 1882, Robert 1880).  They are 12 years apart in age.  It's possible.  Have to keep digging I guess.
Thanks again.

Hi Peggy,

Do you have the ages of all the children?  Would make them easier to look up!

Hi Emma,
I'm not sure if you mean Elizabeth's children or her siblings, but presume James and Elizabeth's children.  There were 15 but some died as babies.
Robert - Christening May 2, 1855 died July 15, 1855
Margaret - Apr or May 1855 ? twin
Ann- Chr. Nov 30, 1856
Robert - Chr. Dec 6, 1857  died Jan 29, 1858
Robert - Chr. Jan 23, 1859
Elizabeth Jane - Oct 19, 1860
Mary - Chr. Aug 17, 1862
Elizabeth - Abt 1864
James - Abt 1864
Jane - Abt 1866
Robert (Boltin) Meggison - Abt. 1868
Dorothy- 1870 (could be 1869) mariied John Cosgrove
George - 1869 died 1871
John Anderson Meggison-Abt 1874
Huh ??Oswald
I have James and Elizabeth in 1861, 71, 81, and 1891.  Looks like 3 sets of twins. Elizabeth's parents were Robert Hazard and Ann Scott.
Thanks so muh for your wonderful help.

Hi Peggy

Noticed the name HAZARD and as this name appears in my tree wondered if our lines may connect.

My line to Hazard is a very indirect connection.  Thomas Hazard FORSIGH b 1856 Sunderland, was the son of Mary HAZARD b 1825 Sunderland & Thomas FORSIGH b 1825 Sunderland.

Thomas H married Margaret Ann POLLEY formerly TAYLOR in 1895 Sunderland.  Margaret Ann Taylor was the wife of one of my ancestors Charles POLLEY who died in 1893 Sunderland.

Wondered if Mary HAZARD linked to you?

Best wishes
Sue

Hi Sue,

Elizabeth Hazard was born May 11, 1829 in Sunderland.  Her parents were Robert Hazard and Ann Scott.  So Mary Hazard and Elizabeth could be siblings, as they are in the same age range.  Do you know Mary's parents. Then I have a Thomas Hazard born abt. 1849 in Sunderland who married Margaret Meggison in 1882, in Bishopwearmouth.  My lineage is the Meggisons really and I'm having quite a time sorting them out.
I have a Susannah Taylor in my tree married to Henry Clasper, and I suspect, but not yet proven, a Mary Taylor married to Robert Meggison about 1846.
