Hello i am looking for information on David gordon who is recorded on his daughter Mary's marriage certificate as being a farmer. this marriage was in 1845 in Townsend steet church and Mary was recorded as being a mill girl. Mary married Lorenzo Eid a tailor who died in 1857 and i do not know what became of Mary. regards aeroqueen

Hello Aeroqueen,
In the 1800s there would have been farms very close to what is now Belfast city centre. I have looked at Surname Search site and will look at one or two more sites so that you have a rough idea where to start searching for David. http://scripts.ireland.com/ancestor/surname/index.cfm
This site shows several David Gordons but I feel that the guy you are seeking may have lived in the Shankill Parish. I am reading the situation this way as I feel Mary would have married at the church where the family regularly worshipped, farmers being a God fearing breed of men. I only had a quick glance at the list and did not notice a David in this area so it is probable that Mary's grandparents were alive at the time she married and all the generations of the Gordon family lived in the one farmhouse. The Griffiths Valuation of Ireland (1848 - 1864) only showed the head of the household. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php
Best Wishes, Christopher

Hello Anthony yes Lorenzo Eid buried in Clifton street belongs in my tree though i don't know very much about him .the words a native of Norway is my stumbling block i can't find a record of him there as his name would most likely have been something like Laurentz and not Lorenzo . and Eid not his surname but rather the area /farm name.i don't fare much better at finding anything on him in Ireland either he was supposedly a ships broker/interpreter of foreign languages though on his daughters 2nd marriage announcement in the newspaper he is recorded as being the consul for Denmark sweden russia & prussia all very grand sounding so you would think there would be some sort of record on him somewhere.I have found no marriage record either for him & sarah .all in all my Eid's are a very elusive bunch .along with the names connected to it like Gordon. thankyou for trying to help me anthony it is appreciated kind regards aeroqueen. Ps thankyou for the message about Mary strange that she went under her maiden name though i have come accross this before where Lorenzo you found in clifton street well his daughter Anna went under the name of Eid when she was in fact a magee (married 1st time name).

Hello Aeroqueen ,
Griffiths Valuation of Belfast shows James Bickerton with two addresses College Square North and Castle Place. This would appear that James residence was at College Square North and place of business was, as you already know, Castle Place. Where are you located? Have you access to Belfast and Province of Ulster Directiories ?
Best Wishes, Christopher

Just some thoughts (and I realise you may have already pursued these):
For the Norway link, have you considered having a look in the area of Norway mentioned on the IGI record of a Lorents Andreas Eid b 1815 at Ytteroy, Nord Trondelag, Norway? I know it is not your Lorenzo, but looking sideways, it is in right timescale (ie with your Lorenzo born c1802) to be a cousin having been given the same 'family' name of perhaps a grandfather.
Also, as Sarah Lynch's parents are buried in the grave with her and Lorenzo, have you managed to track down anything on them that may give a clue to where they lived and/or worshipped (in the hope of eventually finding Lorenzo and Sarah's marriage details in some old church records at PRONI which may give you more info on Lorenzo).

Hello Scotmum&Christopher thankyou both for your messages your input is much appreciated with regards to searching in Norway i have tried various ways but only drawn blanks .i wrote to the Statsarkivet Trondheim who kindly tried to locate a record for him searching various parishes .they told me the equivalent to Lorenzo would be Lorenz or Lorents and that a lot of norwegian ships sailed to Ireland at that time ,he wasn't in the military roll for sailors. thankyou Christopher for the norwegian site i will take a look at it i have used the John Follesdal one which i found really interesting. As to the parents of sarah John&Ann Lynch i know nothing other than they are in the grave which i have visited .the address for Lorenzo i have was weighhouse lane in belfast. i will have a look on the IGI at the man you mention scotmum thankyou once again kind regards aeroqueen
