Challenors of Staffordshire
« on: Wednesday 11 August 04 10:16 BST (UK) »

Help!
Is there anyone who can help me find a group of very elusive ancestors who originated in Staffordshire?
The family were earthenware dealers/hawkers/travellers who ended up in the  Hyde, Newton, Stockport area of Cheshire.
The earliest was a William Challenor, his son Richard was born about 1819 in Stafford (possibly the town). William probably had at least 2 other children Martha and Enoch.
Richard had 3 children Mary born Hazel Grove area 1856, Simeon born 1858 and Enoch born 1859.
The names Enoch and Simeon are quite unusual so if anyone has come across similar Challenors I would be very interested and extremely grateful for any details.

Hello Sandra,

I can not help directly.......as I could not find any Challenors in Staffordshire.

If you have a look at the 1881 Census returns  and look at all the Challenors (296) the majority come from Shropshire 48, then Lancashire 47, Staffordshire 44, Warwickshire 22, Denbighshire 21, North Yorks 19, Cheshire 18, West Yorkshire 14 and Middlesex 14 the rest were below 10.

I thought this maybe usufull to you  Cheesy
