Looking for the family of Sandy(s), or any variation of this spelling, in Ringwood, Christchurch, or Fording-bridge, Hampshire. Moses Sandy(s) went to Newfoundland from England about 1774, maybe from the above mentioned places in Hampshire. There are some Moses Sandy(s) in these places in Hampshire, but they don't seem to be the right age. Are there more Moses Sandy(s)? He was married to someone named Mary, but there is no record of any Moses marrying anyone named Mary in England. Could there be a death record for Moses' wife in England ( a woman who had a different name), who died, leaving him free to marry another woman named Mary?

Hi Pat,
Welcome to RootsChat.
I have found two burials which may be of interest/help in your search.
Jane wife of Moses Sandy buried 12 Jun 1760 Ringwood Moses Sandy buried 6 Jun 1796 Ringwood
At that time, it is rare to find the age of the person recorded in the register.
A Moses Sandy was baptised in Fordingbridge 28 Feb 1708. His parents were Samuel and Mary. It looks as if he had siblings John (1706), William (1711, who died 1712), and William in 1720. Samuel Sandy married Mary Warham in Fordingbridge 9 Sep 1705.
William Sandy married Christian Collis 17 Feb 1744 Fordingbridge.
Moses Sandy married Grace Rabbits 16 Jun 1761 Christchurch.
I don't think that this Moses can be same one baptised in 1708. I think there must be another generation somewhere.
Hope this is of some help.
Nell

Hi Nell,
Thanks very much for your email! It's the first time I've been able to get information about burials of any Moses in Hampshire! I have seen births and marriage records only. (I've been on this hunt for 11 years, now.)
Do you have any ideas about where or how to find more information?
Regards, and thanks, Pat Lobdell St. Louis, Missouri

Hello again Nell,
I found William Sandy and Christian ? had Moses Christened on Dec. 26, 1758, Fordingbridge, Hampshire. I also have Moses Sandy and (no mother listed) who had son, Moses, christened on May 30, 1744, Ringwood, Hampshire.
Any ideas?
Regards, Pat Lobdell St. Louis, Missouri

Hi Pat,
Well, I suppose that Moses who married in 1761 is a candidate for the one baptised in 1744, but that would only make him 17 at the time. Not impossible but perhaps less than likely.
I would think that the Moses baptised in 1758 belongs to William and Christian whose marriage I gave you from 1744.
But there seems to be another Moses (father of Moses b 1744) around whose baptism still needs to be found - probably around the 1715 mark. Methinks yet more digging required!
I've found Moses Sandey m Jane Bown 15 Jun 1738 (extracted IGI record), but someone else has read it as Brown. Needs checking. But Jane is probably the Jane whose burial I found.
