Is James Beck, spouse of Nicholas Irving, in your line? Their daughter, Elizabeth (Betty) b. 1814 in Johnstone married John Swanston b.1808 and they resided in Galashiels.
Their children included daughter, Nicholas, b.1843, sons Andrew b. 1842 and James b. 1845. There were 5 other children. The family emigrated to Ontario, Canada c. 1852.
Regards
Swanny

YES!! James Beck was son of my 5xg grandparents Alexander Beck and Mary French. Brother of my 4xg grandfather Thomas Beck
He married Nicholas Irving in Johnstone abt 1803. They had 6 children Janet, Agnes Bryden, Ann, Mary, Betty, Jean.
Janet, Agnes and Mary stayed together in Johnstone all their lives and never married. I have never been able to trace the other 3 sisters. I thought they must have died young.
Are you from this family?
Many thanks for getting in touch!

John Swanston, who married Betty Beck, was my gg grandfather. Their son, James (2nd son, so the scottish naming tradition - after mother's father - appears to apply), was my great grandfather.
Please see the Swanston message section in RootsChat for more info re the Beck connection and Betty's descendants.
Thank you for adding another generation to my Beck great grandparents.
