Approx 120 km NW of Athlone is a place called Castlebar — Caislean an Bharraigh. Could this be it?
Just a shot in the dark— can't find any other possibles except a Fox's Castle Bridge in Waterford, much further south.

Thanks Rian,

I'm not sure,

If someone was saying it in a very irish accent the person spelling it would do so phonetically!

so I'm lost! lol
thanks again

Rhubarb:
I took a look at townlands in Westmeath for anything beginning with Castle but no Castle Brigges.

CASTLEPOLLARD T.   xx Westmeath Fore Rathgarve Castletowndelvin Leinster
CASTLETOWN T.   xx Westmeath Moycashel Castletownkindalen Mullingar Leinster
CASTLETOWNDELVIN T.   xx Westmeath Delvin Castletowndelvin Castletowndelvin Leinster
Castledown   520 Westmeath Farbill Killucan Mullingar Leinster
Castlegaddery   371 Westmeath Rathconrath Rathconrath Mullingar Leinster
Castlelost   635 Westmeath Fartullagh Castlelost Mullingar Leinster
Castlelost West   538 Westmeath Fartullagh Castlelost Mullingar Leinster
Castletown   691 Westmeath Moycashel Castletownkindalen Mullingar Leinster
Castletown   498 Westmeath Clonlonan Kilcleagh Athlone Leinster
Castletown Lower   426 Westmeath Fore Lickbla Granard Leinster
Castletown Upper   231 Westmeath Fore Lickbla Granard Leinster
Castletowndelvin   471 Westmeath Delvin Castletowndelvin Castletowndelvin Leinster

However in County Wexford there are some possibilities.

CASTLEBRIDGE T.   xx Wexford Shelmaliere East Ardcavan Wexford Leinster
CASTLEBRIDGE T.   xx Wexford Shelmaliere East Ardcolm Wexford Leinster
CASTLEBRIDGE T.   xx Wexford Shelmaliere East Tikillin Wexford Leinster
Castlebridge   57 Wexford Shelmaliere East Ardcavan Wexford Leinster
Castlebridge   38 Wexford Shelmaliere East Ardcolm Wexford Leinster

Hope this helps.

Hi Rhubarb,

What else do you know about Catherine?

The SeanRuad site is an excellent place for searching for places (especially townlands) in Ireland.  It is at:
http://www.seanruad.com/
It seems that Athlone is mostly in Co Westmeath but partly in Co Roscommon.

Having had no luck with 'Castle Brigges' (could be Castle Bridge?), I searched for the name ELSEY (and variants) to see whereabouts in Ireland it might occur.

First I searched for ELSEY (and variants) in the Griffith Valuations at:
http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php
No success

Then (also without success) in the free surname search at Irish Ancestors at:
http://www.ireland.com/ancestor/

This made me wonder whether the ELSEY family was only temporarily in Ireland round the time of Catherine's birth?  Was her father perhaps in the army and stationed there?

From the IGI, the ELS(E)Y name seems to be fairly common around Diss, Norfolk near the border of Suffolk - and in places across the border in Suffolk.

I note that the entry in the IGI about Catherine (or the only one I could find) is an LDS patron submission - one needs to take great care with these!

It says:
Catherine ELSEY, b 1826 Castle Brigges Ireland, parents Noah ELSEY and Maria, married about 1851 at Bedingfield Suffolk to Mr or Fe..  WARNER
As the submitter did not even know the marriage date or the forename of the spouse, it gives one little confidence in the rest of the information

I then looked at FreeBMD and found:
Fenn WARNER, marriage, Dec qtr 1850, Guiltcross Norfolk and a Catharine ELSEY listed on the same page.
Do you have this marriage certificate; what is her father's name and occupation?

Do you have Catharine in every possible census just in case there is a specific birthplace in Ireland mentioned?

I see from the IGI (extracted entry) that a Fenn WARNER and a Catharine had a son James WARNER bap 1861 in Kenton, Suffolk.

Because of the mention of Bedingfield in the LDS submission, I looked in the IGI and saw the following ELSY family (all extracted records):
Joseph ELSY and Maria GARRARD married in Bedingfield, Suffolk in 1817.  They had (all in Bedingfield):
Eliza bap 1818
Jane bap 1824
George b and bap 1825
Samuel bap 1833
Noah bap 1834 (mother's surname not listed for Noah)

Well, just some thoughts.

thanks Pat for those, I shall bare them in mind,

Jap,

I have Catharine on 1861 and 71, have not looked yet at 81 etc yet as I was following Fenn Warner who was My 4X grandfather,

so I shall take alook later at those censuses to see if it throws any light on it,

I shall also send for Fenns Marriage certificate as I now have index number to order,

I was unaware of another son, thankyou for that, I shall have a look at that when i get back home this morning!
he wasnt listed on any census living with fenn ,presuming this child may have died, I shall have to try and see what happened to him!

thanks for your replies, much appreciated
I shall be in touch if anything crops up!
