I have one possible birth to my 3X Great Grandmother that occured in 1838. (All other known births occured prior to Civil Registration.) I am aware, from several birth certificates that I have purchased, that sometimes the mothers maiden name appears on the certificate. (In the column labeled mother - ex: Eliza KNOTT formerly GREEN is one I have.) Other times it does not. This son is not my direct line and I am on limited income so I would prefer not to purchase the certificate on such a slim chance. Is their anyway to obtain this information by another means? (The info I have is from the IGI index on Family search). Any suggestions are welcome ----- Dee ps -- Certificate I am interested in is for ---- David FIDO christened 22 APR 1838 -- Father - William FIDO & Mother listed as Hannah (no maiden name) I would dearly love to know Hannah's maiden name.
I think the only way to get this information is from the marriage record.
Looking at the IGI I see the birth entry for David Fido in Corsham (parents William and Hannah). There is also an entry for a marriage in Corsham Wiltshire for William Fido and Hannah.
Unfortunately again Hannah's surname is not given.
The year of the marriage is given as 1813.
Maybe someone here has access to the parish records for Corsham and could do a look up for you. Try posting all the details in the Wiltshire look up section and see if anyone can help.
