Hi Sandra
There is only one entry on the 1861 Census that would fit, specially with your additional info on Mary Ann also using the name Black. With that info, and the 1861 Census confirmation, this would appear to be her birth entry on IGI:
MARY BLACK Birth: 01 MAR 1855 Kilwinning, Ayr, Scotland Parents: Mother: SUSAN BLACK
The 1861 Census entry:
Mary Ann Black 6, boarder, b. Kilwinning, Ayrshire Susan Black 22, boarder, Mill Worker, b. Ireland John Duffy 25, head, Ironstone Miner, b. Ireland Ann Duffy 30, wife, b. Ireland Jane Duffy 7 Mo, b. Kilbirnie, Ayrshire Bidget Ross 20, boarder, Mill Worker, b. Ireland Rebecca Ross 17, boarder, Mill Worker, b. Ireland
Address: 47 Townhead, Kilbirnie, Ayrshire
With Mary Ann's birth being in 1855, this was the first year of official registration in Scotland. For one year only, the BMD entries ran over two pages with a wealth of additional info being included.
I haven't viewed an 1855 birth cert, where the birth was illegitimate so not sure what in particular is included. I would expect that you will find in this case details of where Susan was from in Ireland.
Regards.
Monica

Thank you so much Monica
Her marriage certificate stated she was Convery but I asume that was because her father finally showed up
This is a great help and hopefully I will get hold of the birth certificate one day.
