If you come across any websites or sources that have helped you and are of particular use to the Dumfriesshire researcher then please post them here.

I've merged a few gems found by Rootschat as a starter.

Good Searching,
Pam

Emmigration

Snow Lovely Nelly 1774 & 1775
http://www.rootsweb.com/~pictou/lnell1.htm

Quote
The Lovely Nelly was a Snow class ship built in 1762 at Chepston, South Wales for Captain John Walker and Company, and registered at Whitehaven, England. This ship made two sailings carrying emigrants from the GALLOWAY area of Southern Scotland to Prince Edward Island.

Dumfriesshire and Galloway Historical Indexes.

A Great site with lots of good information. I especially liked the search function on the 1851 Census.

This includes:-
1.  The 1851 Census Returns for Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire

2.  Dumfries Kirk Session and Presbytery Minutes 1689 - 1838

3.  Troqueer Kirk Session Minutes 1698 - 1771

4.  Mouswald Kirk Session 1640 to 1659

5.  Dumfries Jail Books and Bail Bond Registers 1714-1810

6.  Dumfries Town Chamberlains' Accounts 1793-1801

7.  Dumfries Dean of Guild Plans 1892-1974

8.  The Shipping Registers for Dumfries 1824-1904, Kirkcudbright 1824-1841, Stranraer 1824-1908 and Wigtown 1836-1908

9.  Dumfries Poor Board Minutes

Here's an interesting collection of indexes...

http://users.quista.net/jameswilliams/Wood_Maps.htm

Quote
The personal-name and placenames data from the Dumfriesshire and Galloway John Wood Maps (Dumfries & Maxwelltown, 1819; Annan, 1826; Kirkcudbright, 1843 and Stranraer, 1843) have been recorded within an Access database. Extracts of personal and place-names for the five towns are provided below.

I found this through the Friends of the Archives website at:-
http://www.dgarchives.fsnet.co.uk/purpose.htm

Who have newsletters which contain some of the more colourful snippets from their transcription projects.

Happy Hunting,
Pam
