I have a anticedent who gives her place of birth as Lewknor Uphill is this the same as Lewknor and is it in Buckinghamshire or Oxfordshire.

I have the same thing!!  Lewknor Uphill......  I did wonder if possibly when they were asked where they lived or were born, that the dialect had something to do with it??? 

i.e. meaning 'I live/was born in Lewknor up the hill'.  I hope this makes sense.....

Who are you researching may I ask??

Hi Sarah,

I found this today which probably explains it:

Cadmore End parish registers: christenings at Ackhampstead (Ashamptead)
chapel 1786-97, 1800-1812, christenings 1813-1912 (to 1837 described as at
Ackhampstead Chapel, from 1838-1852 at Lewknor up Hill, and 1852 Cadmore
End), marriages 1852-1971, burials 1852-1972, banns 1890-1949.[FILM SERIES
ENG BKM 4]

It seems Cadmore End and Lewknor Uphill are one and the same. Lewknor and Lewknor Uphill are different.
