Hi,
I have a booklet 'Transportation from Hull and the East Riding to America and Australia taken from Quarter Session Records'.
Quarter Sessions covered are Kingston upon Hull 1707-1846, Beverley 1759-1836 and East Riding 1735-1856.
The information given in the book is a reference which will enable you to get further information from the Archives office. The information varies from quite informative to very basic - as an example:
MAJOR William, of the parish of Wetwang, pig jobber, Beverly QS 1817 July 14, transported for 7 years
FENTON Barbara, wife of Henry of Hull, flaxdresser, Kington upon Hull QS 1758 Thomas a Beckett; contract, bond, certificate 1759 Jan 4
SMITH John, Kingston upon Hull QS 1819 Apr 22, transported for 7 years
There is also a list of persons who brought the prosecutions, who were contracted to convey transportees to the hulks or who were Masters of the ships that took them to America.
I found a reference to one of my family in the list of persons who brought the prosecutions and was able to get a photocopy of a certificate giving information on items stolen from him, their value and by whom they were stolen.
I'm happy to look up any names/surnames (even just Smith - there's not that many of them!)
For a look up request please start a new topic in the Yorkshire East Riding Lookup Requests Board and state 'TRANSPORTATION LOOK-UP' in the title.
Sasha.
