Holland, Frederick King
« on: Wednesday 14 September 05 23:30 BST (UK) »

Hello. I'm new to this site and am just edging my way along.
I'm looking for info about Frederick King Holland who was born somewhere in Dorset in 1805 then, at some stage went to London. He married Emily Bowerman on 20 May 1838 at St. Mary's in Lambeth. He was a printer/compositor. He and Emily had 5 children, the last one being Henry George King Holland, my grandfather.
The family moved to Islington from Southwark/Lambeth where Frederick K. died in 1854.
My main query is about where Frederick King Holland was born. His father was John Holland, a miller and baker. Did his father and family go to London with him? What could be the significance of the name of King to this family?
Can anyone help please?

Thank you Chloe and Frances for such rapid responses. It seems that this info corresponds with mine and the family's legend that someone left Sherborne for London. That appears to have been Frederick. The dates are of great use.

I now assume that none of his family of then accompanied him and, therefore, searches have to be made for them in the Dorset archives which I will continue after my holiday.

I am very grateful for your help.

Regards,

Bob.
