Jeremiah RULE
« on: Thursday 12 August 04 09:38 BST (UK) »

An ancestor of my husband named Jeremiah Rule appeared in Whitehaven, Cumberland about 1720. He was a collier who worked in the newly opened coal mines. The name was passed on for a few generations and then faded out.
Recently I heard of the name in Cornwall and wondered if that is where our Jeremiah originated. I would love to know of any Jeremiah Rules in Cornwall, where they lived etc. Also if anyone has heard reference to the name earlier than 1800.

An unusual name!
I wonder if it ran in the family.
If it did maybe my husband's Jeremiah came from the same family in Cornwall!

Hi Jean

Would you like us to follow them through the censuses? ...I see in 1851 jeremiah and Elizabeth have other children ...none named Jeremiah. There is, however, a William and Blanch Rule who have a son named Jeremiah b c 1841. They are all in Cambourne , Cornwall.

It looks like the name did carry on in the Cornwall area.  Cheesy

Yes, it is really jeremiah and his family.
