Jeremiah Rule
« on: Thursday 12 August 04 09:42 BST (UK) »

An ancestor of my husband named Jeremiah Rule appeared in Whitehaven, Cumberland about 1720. He was a collier who worked in the newly opened coal mines. The name was passed on for a few generations and then faded out.
We would be interested to know where our Jeremiah originated. I would love to know of any Jeremiah Rules in Scotland, where they lived etc.  Also if anyone has heard reference to the name earlier than 1800.

There are definitely plenty of "Rule" in Annan and surrounding areas.  Next time I visit the MI I'll have a look for Jeremiahs.

Best of luck digging,
Pam

Many thanks Pam,
Annan is just across the water from Whitehaven, there is a chance that Jeremiah originated from there. My concern is the early date and how far backin time  the Rules go in that area.
It is good of you to offer and I would be very grateful for the help.
Thank you
Jean
