jeremiah Rule
« on: Thursday 12 August 04 09:44 BST (UK) »

An ancestor of my husband named Jeremiah Rule appeared in Whitehaven, Cumberland about 1720. He was a collier who worked in the newly opened coal mines. The name was passed on for a few generations and then faded out.
We would be interested to know where our Jeremiah originated. I would love to know of any Jeremiah Rules in Durham, where they lived etc.  Also if anyone has heard reference to the name earlier than 1800.

No news of a jeremiah, but in 1851 there was just one family in South Shields area, Thomas 26, Mary 22, William 1 month (piece HO 107/2399 folio 192). In the 1891 census there were 4 families - again no Jeremiahs.

Is that info of any use?
