Yes I think it looks as if the children of the Gow family may have had a mother not Jane and there is enough time space between Peter and Hannah to allow for Ann's birth in 1836, though she is not shown with them on the ship.

Also, Lillias is an odd name isn't it?  I have not heard it before at all so not likely a co-incidence of names.

A family Knox were and are well-known land-owners and graziers in rural Vic.  I wonder if same family.  She was a young bride.<snip>

Dear Sue,

I suspect that Ann was named after her mother Hannah (Ann and Hannah are common variants) and that she did not survive so they named the next daughter by the same name but using the variant Hannah (might Hannah ROBERTSON's mother have been Ann/Hannah)..

Lilias/Lillias and variants are not so odd - try it in the IGI just entering the forename and selecting British Isles as the region.

Let's hope the land-owning KNOXs are yours - though my experience of thinking to link with Western District PHILP/PHILIPs yielded much interest, and some really great correspondents, but no connexion!  (They were in the Miga Lake area and Captain PHILIP was from Aberdeen; my children's paternal PHILP/PHILIPs were around Castlemaine - especially Franklinford - and came from Fife.)

Peter GOW however is not really a common name - and if the family followed Scottish naming patterns Peter would be Robert's father's name (assuming that Robert had not married even earlier and already had sons).  I always check for the variant Patrick when I come across a Peter in Scotland (so many Irish chaps called Patrick adopted Peter instead).  But, in Perthshire, there are quite a few Peter GOWs and quite a few Patrick GOWs.

Well, Sue, it's been good to see some genealogical positives this afternoon.  For myself, my printer has conked out (I've just tried everything possible to no avail and much frustration).  It's fairly ancient so probably has an inbuilt self-destruct program to foil those of us who fondly imagine that a piece of equipment (like those of our youth) will keep on keeping on!

Far worse - my desktop has suddenly lost all sorts of icons including my email, my genealogical program, etc, etc; and not just the icons - I can't find them anywhere.  And this just less that 24 hours after I was telling myself that I MUST update everything across to my recently resuscitated laptop (I'm too tired tonight, said I, I'll do it tomorrow - and you think computers aren't mindreaders!).

On Monday I shall take my computer down to the local repairers and hope that they can do some good ...

Meantime, how nice to find people who might belong to another RootsChatter!

Yes Jap, obviously IT KNEW and was waiting till all the Parrett/Gow/Daniels  info was neatly passed on and then said"Mmmm, I'm over this genealogical stuff.  She's been dangling me on a thin string for too long and I'm out of here. Hooroo!!"

I have found the 'technical advise' section of rootschat to be wonderfully helpful, but your things might be more profound.  Best of luck and I hope you receive these heart-felt thanks  on your collapsing system.  Sue
