Commonwealth War Graves Commission
"The "Debt of Honour Register"  is the Commission's database listing the 1.7 million men and women of the Commonwealth forces who died during the two world wars and the 23,000 cemeteries, memorials and other locations world-wide where they are commemorated. The register can also be searched for details of the 67,000 Commonwealth civilians who died as a result of enemy action in the Second World War."

Another site worth visiting is http://www.monumental-inscriptions.co.uk .  It is a site just in its infancy but could be a good resource in time.  It's got a searchable database and everyone has the ability to contribute.

I agree with you Helen, this site will be great.

I have recently been in touch with malcolm (he is also the Webmaster for the Uk Surname Listings site) it is not 100% clear on the site with the Counties that he lists in total, so if you have particular monumental inscription but the area is not listed by Malcolm contact him directly on: webmaster@county-surnames.co.uk  he is very helpful & all monumental inscriptions are gratefully received.

Thanks Helen & Jen,

The site is beginning to pick up, slowly, but then I never expected anything different.  I have just finished fixing some problems people were having adding entries,  and it all seems to be working properly now.

The intention of the site is to record in one place as many UK monumental inscriptions as we can.  Anyone can add a transcription to the site, which is free for all to use and utilise.  Different search facilites are being added as the needs arise, and I welcome any comments (in praise or criticism).

If you have any MI Transcriptions, then please donate them to this site, to enable others to benefit from them now, and to preserve the inscriptions for future generations.  If you wish to provide small numbers, then you can add them on the site itself,  larger collections may be better sent in bulk,  details on request.

Commonwealth War Graves Commission

I do not think this has been listed?

http://www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/search.aspx

The drop down arrow adjacent to the Casualty field allows a search by cemetery or memorial   ,  including the  United Kingdom ,  allowing access to reports, plans and photographs where applicable.

As most of you are aware, Dave and i went to Bournemouth at the weekend.  While we were down that way i dragged him to Hollybrook Cemetery in Southampton and took photos of the memorials for the RMS Lienster.  There are a lot of Irish Soldiers as well as english ones too.

The link to the RMS Lienster page is on the front page.
