Maria gives her birth place as Storrington in 1891 so this looks like a possible:
1871 RG10/1110 109 2 Patching, Sussex Mitchell Grove Lodge Emery Cooper, head, 51, Ag lab, b. Sussex Rudgwick Caroline, wife, 47, b. Storrington Susanah, dau, 21, b. do. William, son, 14, Ag lab, b. do. Maria, dau, 12, scholar, b. do. Henry, son, 10, scholar, b. do. Albert, son, 6, scholar, b. do.

Many thanks TATI for all the info. 1891&1901 info ties in with mine. The Staff connection is confusing. I have a Reginald Staff marrying Nellie/Nelly Harriet Green b1888,marriage as you say 1913 but you show his name as John R.Staff ( I know he was known as Reg, (maybe he did not like being called John) Am pretty certain they had 2 daughters who we knew as Eleanor ( although think may have referred to her as Nellie, & Elizabeth, years of birth unknown, but 1914/5 sounds about right. I know the parents lived in Worthing Sussex area in the 1950,s.

Hi Tati, just catching up with Fam Tree cannot seem to find the link/listing you very kindly gave me for John Reginald Staff. Could you let me know again please. The John Staff I am searching for was possibly born around 1888 & his wife was Nellie/Nelly Harriet Green she was born 1888.

Baptisms at Storrington:
4 July 1858 Maria, daughter of Emery & Caroline Cooper, labourer
+ several others to Emery & Caroline, the earliest in 1849.
28 December 1823 Emery, son of John & Charlotte Cooper, labourer
Marriage at Storrington:
3 March 1849 Emery Cooper, bachelor, labourer & Caroline Quait, spinster Fathers: Emery Cooper, labourer & Edmund Quait, miller Witnesses: William Quait, Richard Pottinger
All this from the PRTS transcription. Might be worth checking the actual marriage register to see if the groom's father isn't actually called John.
HTH, Stovepipe
