Hei Aitnax,

Have you tried this site ? http://www.seanruad.com
I feel there is no way that Castledillon could sound like Chalderden. There is a possibility the name may have been given to the Census enumerator in the Irish language in which case you need an Irish linguist to have a look at this one. Most Irish towns have names in both Irish and English on signposts.

I'm guessing it's Charlestown. There are 7, the biggest in Cork and Louth.

Hi Aitnax

Why not try the following:-

www.irishgaelictranslator.com

www.irish-sayings.com

Another tip:  Search through the 'Irish property pages' for (Kildare) which will give the names of towns and villiages. EG

www2.myhome.ie

Good luck
