Hi valerie,
Thank you for the 1920 census details. It is fairly certain that he went to the USA in 1913 as he would only have been 14 in 1903 and there doesn't appear to be any family reason for it to be a Barnados emigration or anything like that.
Do you happen to know what time of the year the 1920 US census was taken?
