Hi All,

I was wondering whether anyone might be able to find the family below in the 1841 or 1851 census?

Here are the details i have from the 1861 census

Samuel Gilbert  head 28 ilkeston
Charlotte  wife 22 Shepshed Leics
Anne m  daughter 1 Ilkeston
Charlotte daughter 1 month Ilkeston
William Green Father-in-law 56 Alfreton Derbyshire
Herbert Green brother-in-law 17 Ilkeston
Emma Green sister-in-law 15 ilkeston

I am looking for Samuel and the in-laws on either earlier census, i think they might be related to samuel and not actually be in-laws, as Charlotte's maiden name was Grimley we think

Any help would be great

Hi, I have the 1851 as Ilkeston is on the Notts census for that year. No Grimleys on the index for Ilkeston I'm afraid. What I did find was :-

I will have to do a bit more digging i think!

does anyone have the 1841 census entry?  I wondered if Samuel and his brother might be on there, it may show his parents??

Do you think Ann Grimley could have married William Green.  There is a William Green living in Ilkeston in 1841 with a GODDARD family that would fit in with the age of the William you are seeking.  If so Charlotte Grimley might be listed as Green in the 1851 census.
Also next door to the Taylors and Gilberts in 1841 there are a couple of Green families.
Very intriguing.

You know, i think you might be right there, that was were i was getting confused.  On one of Charlotte's children's birth cert, she says her maiden name is Grimley, yet the in-laws on the 1851 census are listed as Green.  And when she married i think she used Grimley. that would explain it!

There is no father there so could Ann have had Charlotte out of wedlock perhaps? though he could have died, will have to try and find her birth cert
