Birth - c1884 - Limerick
« on: Tuesday 20 September 05 18:30 UTC (UK) »

Hello  Smiley,
Please would anyone be able to help me?
Is it possible to find the birth/bapt. for Edward F. Gladding about 1884 in Limerick. His father was William.

Many thanks,

Hi -  As civil registration in Ireland started in 1864 you should be able to apply for the birth certificate.  (Church of Ireland marriages only start from 1845).
The  address for the main GRO is-
General Register Office
Government Offices
Convent Road
Roscommon
Ireland

It's usually  much quicker to apply to the local office
Limerick(City) -    St Camillus's Hospital    Limerick City       or
Limerick(County) -  M.W.H.B.  Health Centre   Newcastle West   Limerick

You can send cash  6 euros 98 to the local offices only( I send 7 or a 10 euro note)
Try to give as much info as possible(name ,religion, parents, place, approx year etc)
Here is the link - if you click on 'fees'  then scroll down you should get the addresses.

If you are successful and get the parents names and place on the birth certificate you could possibly try for the marriage.(Cof I go back a bit further).

If any dates are before registration i.e. before 1864  (or before 1845 for C of I marriages only) I think you then have to try writing  to the parish for records.
I hope this helps.

Good Luck

Hi Neptune,
Thanks for the advice. It's only that one birth that occured in Limerick and the next child was born somewhere else in Ireland. The family came from London and out of their 9 children  number 2 and 3 were born in Ireland. Then they went back. Perhaps they went there for work, I don't know.

Many thanks,
