Can anyone advise me how to obtain copies of bmd records at a cheaper rate than through scotlandspeople who charge £10 each?

You can view the certificate and print them off at Scotlands People for £7.00 which gives you 30 credits to use. (5 credits per cert)

The only other way i know of is to go to GRO in Edinburgh yourself. This site will give you information on this,

hi, if you write direct to the relevant record office for your particular ancestor, the copies are £7 each

you'd have to know which it was

Sorry to contradict here, but the cost from Dundee Registrars is £13.50.  Can't really say what other regions charge, but it should be on the various websites.

ah, now, i believe you're right.  very sorry about that.  i've sent for a number of English ones that are £7 from local offices .. all record offices in England charge £7 except the big one in london that charges £8.50.

but when i sent to Edinburgh for certificate, it cost £13.50 too.  how could i forget that :-/.   i couldn't fathom why Scotland could be so much more expensive than England and had concluded it was because it was Edinburgh!

but it seems it is across hte board!   jings!   wonder how they justify that cost!

Not sure either Roll Eyes  It seems a relatively easy exercise to get a copy, particularly if you have a date.  The one and only copy I bought took all of 5 mins to find and be typed up!!!
