HI, I am stuck with my G Grandfather James Sinclair (his parents were James Sinclair/Jane Cromach?), and his wife Isabella Sabiston. He was the Gas Works Manager in Stromness.
I have the date of their marriage from another Cert as 8/7/1862 Sandwick but cant find any registration on Scotlands People.
I can't find Isabella's birth either which would be around 1759.
Any help would be great.

Hi AniMac,
I have found Isabella's Death certificate, her parents names,
they were Alexander Sabiston and Catherine Slater.
They married 27/12/1827 Sandwick.
These are their children

Hello Kenjo,
We have a little anomoly with Isabella! and you may well be able to say why this happens as I know people used not always give their correct date of birth/age.
From your info, we have Isabella Christened 1837.
From the 1841 Census Sandwick she is supposed to be 3, but 3 from 1841 = 1838, so she was (am laughing) Christened before born.

If you look carefully, she was to have her birthday in 1841.
So when the census happened she would have still been 3yrs.
Mind you, always have an open mind, they fib, all the time when they get to being more than 10yrs old, I am meaning females. , and in the 1841c once they were not children the ages can be rounded to 5 and even 10yrs.
The error I refered to, is this.
I can't find Isabella's birth either which would be around 1759. regards,

christened.....08 DEC 1837
so.....08 DEC 1838 she is 1yr
.......08 DEC 1839 she is 2yrs.
.........08 DEC 1840 she is 3yrs
.........08 DEC 1841 she is 4yrs.
but, the census was way before december, so she was 3yrs old..........
do you see my point, you can't just subtract, you have to think, are they still to have a birthday in the year of question, which would take you back to a previous year.
