The main Walter family in the area were at Bearwood in Winnersh which today is Bearwood College, a boys boarding school.  This is only a few miles from Hurst.  There are a number of books written about the school, its history, and the family.

The house was only built in the 1850s by John Walter III but there are obviously two earlier generations.  He owned the Times the local Wokingham based newspaper, has a road named after him and built St Paul's church in Wokingham and St Paul's school previously called Walter Schools.

If this is your family then the histories of any of the above could lead you to a link and a lot of information.

I an fairly certain I saw a copy of the history of Bearwood in the local Wokingham Bookshop the other day.  Its called Bookends.

I hope the above helps
