Am endlessly trying to find my Gt-Gt Grandparents who were immigrants in1896. Barnett Kosky (from Poland) & Yetta Kliman (from Germany) came to Liverpool in 1896 and settled in the Spitalfields area of London, later moving to Mile End. We believe they met on a ship coming from Poland to Liverpool in 1896, Barnett had a child with him called Yasmin, but she was of no relation to him. On settling in London they had a child Joseph Kosky in 1897 and at tht time lived at 134 Brick Lane, Spitalfields. Later moving to the Mile End area where they had a son Jack Kosky in 1905. Both children were orphaned by their parents around 1906. We cannot find any trace of the family at all. There are birth registration for Joseph, but no trace of Jack. Barnett and Yetta are completely a mystery!!!!

Hej / Hi Kerryl, Regarding Barnett Kosky. Polish names have male and female forms so your Kosky could be KOSKI. If it is spelt incorrectly then it might be KOLSKI. It might also be a short form of KOSOWSKI. This might seem a bit confusing but I hope it helps. However, Barnett is not a Polish name. Best wishes, Kaja, Poland

Further to Kaja's thought about possible changes in the name:
How about KOWSKI ?
I have a colleague KOWSKI, pronounced Koff-Skee.
In english, the first thought would be to say COW-SKEE, so maybe that would be a reason, to drop the 'W'

Hi Kerry,
I was just rooting around on 1901 for a look-up for another thread ("Russia to Liverpool") when I noticed the name Barnel Radom, Poland Russian Subject.
Maybe your BARNETT was originally BARNEL ??
Just on the off-chance, I entered KLIMAN in GEDBAS (see Sharing Useful Links: GERMANY & E.Europe) and got the names KLIMANE(C)K, KLIMANSKI and Klimankiewiczowna
Don't know if that helps ?
