'A scrap of a note 1847"
« on: Thursday 22 September 05 03:16 BST (UK) »

I found a 'scrap of a note' written in 1847 to relatives in New Zealand in my odds and ends that says, in part,
"Went to London on 27th April 1844, living at No. 3 Wilmot Street, Bethnal Green Road, London.  Left Reading as work so hard to get.  Husband and both sons well - neither married yet.  My Mother very ill in Reading but still alive at time of writing.  Your Sister is very well and lives near us.  Your brother William has buried his eldest son (age 11)  working at the Mill.  Your Sister Sarah has had two of hers die with the fever, one 11 years the other 2 years - all three in the last five weeks before Xmas."

Writer of letter, Sarah Warner, 3 Wilmot Street.

I am hoping that Sarah Warner and her family are still at 3 Wilmot Street,Bethnal Green in 1851.
Would appreciate it if someone could have a look for me as I would love to know the rest of her family.

G'day joboy,
don't have access to 1851, but in '61 the Warners are still at 3 Wilmot Street:
RG9/258 Folio 42 Page 21
3 Wilmot Street, Bethnal Green
(sharing house with Morris family)

William WARNER  Head  Mar  74   Silk Weaver  Berkshire
Sarah WARNER  Wife  Mar  73  Silk Weaver, Berkshire
William WARNER  Son  Un  36  Silk Weaver, Berkshire

Everyone on the page is either a Silk Weaver, or somethign else to do with silk.

Hope this helps
Cheers

Thanks Prue,
Nice to know they were still at that address in 1861 ........ hopefully someone will provide the 1851 census detail.
At least, with your find, I have Sarah's age (73) which is a darned good clue.
