Prison Records « on: Monday 03 October 05 18:54 BST (UK) »
I have an ancestor Alexander Royan who was convicted to 7 years transportation in 1820. Prior to transportation he was held in Inverness Tollbooth and also Elgin Tollbooth. Any idea where I might find the records for these prisons.
Many thanks
Irene

Have you had a look at the Moray Heritage Centre site at http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp. There is 12 hits for a Alexander Royan, and a total of 188 for the surname Royan. It is a very good site which provides local references to various events which have been recorded in a persons life - including reference to 'criminal' activities. Hopefully you will find your Alexander and then you can mail them for the information
