Charles & Betsey Griffiths, Harmerhill 1891
« on: Thursday 22 September 05 21:18 BST (UK) »

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone was able to locate this couple. From my limited knowledge, they had a daughter (Ellen) in 1892 in Harmerhill, and so could be in this locality. Charles would be about 28 - he was a general labourer in 1901, where his birth place is down as Glass Houghton, Yorks. Betsey (nee Ross) would be about 30, born Whitchurch in Shropshire.

The 1901 census is my only source of documentary evidence about this couple so far.

Many thanks

Hi Carole,

I have had a look through the 1891 Harmer Hill census but cannot find them there sadly. Perhaps they had only just moved there
After looking at this I checked in Whitchurch for a Betsey (Elizabeth) Ross in 1861 but got nothing from that either.

I will have a better look for you later when I have a bit more time

Thank you for looking - I have been searching on and off for ages and have never found anything - they are a most elusive couple and I am beginning to wonder if the original source was faulty in her memory!

Appreciate it.
