Meggison family and toll-gates
« on: Friday 23 September 05 02:14 BST (UK) »

Hello,
I have recently received some letters dated 1927 in which my ancestors are mentioned in connection with different toll-gates.  Robert Meggison had Shipcote Toll Gate Gateshead, also Morpeth Toll-gate in the 1800s.  His son James became associated with Shipcote as well.  Robert's son Robert had Sunderland Bridge as well as some ferry boats at that location.
Where would I find out more about these toll-gates?
Thank you.

 Huh

Hi Peggy,

Not that I can answer your question, just to let you know that I have the same problem with the Darlington Lane, Norton, Toll gate,
I have tried all kinds of folk and they have been unfailingly helpful with the information they have, but that is so scarce that I have discovered nothing at all.

Hope that you come up with your answers, wish you the best of luck
