1841 & 1851 census lookup please Glasgow McCulloch

Hi

I am brick-walled with this couple, and have been for about 3 years, so help would really be appreciated.

I am new to Rootschat and put this request on the Lanarkshire forum before I realised that this section of the site existed. As I have not had any response to the Lanarkshire request I thought I had better put it into the correct section.

Seeking Robert McCulloch and wife Janet Donald (also shown on Australian records as Jessie McDonald) they had 3 children all born in Glasgow. Ann b 12 Aug 1822 she married James Anderson Dec. 1841.  Robert b 7 Dec 1824 he migrated to Oz in 1853. and Janet/Jessie b 9 Sept 1827

As I do not know the parents of Robert & Janet I was hoping to find the family on one of these census and so find out which part of Glasgow they were living in. Maybe if I have this info I might be able to finally locate them on the OPR.

Can't help you with the 1841 but might I offer this suggestion

have a freebee for Scottish IGI ........ and part and parcel of that is that Scots Origins offer all data from the original Parish records (not the abbreviated IGI record)
Ann McCulloch according to their records is shown on a date of the 12th August 1821 (not 1822)
Anyway...take a look, it will be at a cost but I wouldn't have thought that much ? ........... and the Parish record/transcript is Emailed to you.

Fletcher (Glouc into Warwickshie into Lancs?), BUCKLEY (Chatham area), Watson (Chatham area).

Now that I know they were not in Glasgow 1841 & 1851 I can begin to figure out where else to look for them. The only clue I have apart from where the children were born is that my ancestor Robert McCulloch who came to Oz named his home here "Gallowgate". He was a Turner by occupation and lists this occupation also for his father Robert McCulloch.

I will check out that site you suggested Bryant, but I already have scoured the IGI on the LDS site for their marriage with no result.

Although there are others around, "Gallowgate" is a main thoroughfare in Glasgow running eastwards from Glasgow Cross which possibly strengthens the "Glasgow" link.

There is a possible for an Ann Anderson (husband James) in the 1851 index

I have just turned on my computer and was thrilled to see your reply.

I think you have found Robert and Jessie! I am really excited about this.

Jessie(Janet) did not marry until 6 Feb 1853 when she married James Alexander in Gorbals parish. Robert came to Oz in 1853, so it looks as though it is them.

The entry for Ann also looks good, although I do not have a child John - perhaps he subsequently died - I have a total of 7 children for them. Ann McCulloch married James anderson in december 1841.

I see you are currently online so am trying to keep this brief, once I have absorbed it all I will send another post.
