Jackson / Richardson
« on: Friday 23 September 05 09:44 UTC (UK) »

My ancestors from Westmorland "East Ward" are mainly Jacksons and Richardsons.

I know ....... very commen names for that area! And not from one family but from several.
Is any one here also looking ..........  Huh

My Jacksons and Richardson are:
Joseph Jackson - born c1849 in Warcop
married to
Mary Richardson - born c1856 in Bongate/Murton

Joseph's parents: Thomas Jackson and Ann ? - Bankend/Sandford
Mary's parents: James Richardson and Sarah Watson - Brackenber/Hilton

Regards,
Miranda

Hi Miranda,

I think i have found a link between your "Mary Richardson" and my great grandma,i think they were sisters,

My great grandma was Jane Richardson, who in 1878 married a Thomas Hall of Warcop,

Their eldest daughter (my grandma)was Sarah J Hall born 1879 who married a William Richardson (my grandad) in ??, I am positive that this was her second marriage but cannot find anything about it,
Sarah J Richardson died in 1923 giving birth to my mother,
William Richardson died around 1955 ish

I can trace the Hall side of the Clan but have drawn a blank on my Richardsons,

Regards BrianT (totally confused)

Hi Brian,

Jane Richardson is an older sister of Mary.
Jane was born in 1849 (Bongate or Hilton).
Here parents are James Richardson and Sarah Watson.
They got married in 1848. (June 1848 East Ward 20 511)
James was born in Little Musgrave (Crosby Garrett). Parents: John and Mary Richardson. I'm still working on Mary's surname.
Sarah Watson was born in Middleton (Durham). Still need to find more about her.

There are different Richardson families. Mary's daughter, Sarah Ann married a John Richardson in 1907. Very confussing indeed. He wasn't related to Mary. So from another Richardson family. Aarrgghh!

It seems you have the same problem.

Hi Twiglets,

I had a quick look and it looks like your Elizabeth JACKSON is from de Kendal area. I found a marriage of the two:

Quote
Marriages Dec 1868
-------------------------------------------------
AIREY  William     Kendal  10b 1038
JACKSON  Elizabeth     Kendal  10b 1038

May be it's a good idea to order the certificate.
Info that can be usefull is "residence at the time of marriage", "father's name and surname" and "profession of father". It always has helped me to get on with my research. With that info you certainly will find them both in Census of 1861.

Good Luck!

I actually did a look up on the marriage for William Airey & Elizabeth Jackson, and came up with this, also if William married when he was 21 then he would have been born in 1713, so i will check out his and Elizabeth's date of birth.

Hi Twiglet

The marriage found by Miranda was in 1868

JACKSON  Elizabeth     Kendal  10b 1038

So where does the birthyear of 1713 fit in

Hi

That may affect your programme but you yourself typed the wrong dates in your reply which is confusing.

You give the impression that you are looking for a birth for William in 1713 when it will probably be nearer to the mid- 1840's

I don't know what to say anymore, your message somehow has irked me, and left me rather stumped.

But you can see the problem can't you?

If Miranda has found the right marriage in 1868 between William Airey and Elizabeth Jackson - you are then saying that William Airey was born in 1713

This is impossible as he would have been 155 years old in 1868
