John MacKAY/McKAY 1851 Census

I'm looking for John Mackay in 1851. I've found him in 1861, in Bramford Suffolk. His age is given there as 40 and his birth place Scotland. Later his birth place is given as Ireland. He's a market gardener in most of the census's. His wife Elizabeth was born in Great Yarmouth.
The first child I have found was born in 1859 and so I don't know if there were any in 1851.
I can't find the marriage record either and so don't know where they got married.

I have evidence to suggest he may have another name as well as John i.e. Alexander but may this is just wishful thinking.
