Willis Family - 1851
« on: Friday 23 September 05 14:33 BST (UK) »

Can someone do a look up on the 1851 census for me please?
I am looking for:
Steel Willis (c1789) - Bricklayer.  In 1841 and 61, he was living in Cold Hall, Panfield so I'm hoping he was there in 1851 as well.
I am interested in seeing if he has any family members living with him at that time?
Also looking for Jane Savill (c1794) again in 1841 living in Noaks, Panfield
Any assistance as always, very much appreciated.

Thats brilliant - Thank you very much
I know its a bit cheeky, but could you also have a look for Joseph Savill(c1820) and Eliza (c1817).  In 1841, they were at Clackes (I think - its a bit hard to make out), Shalford.
Thanks for all your help

Hi KPM,
I have details from Shalford PRs of the family of Thomas and Ann Willis, 10 children all baptised at Shalford, including a Steel Willis born 23 Feb 1748 and baptised 16 Mar 1748.

Interested?

Hi
Not sure whether there is a connection yet, but its certainly worth investigating - Steel is not the most common of names.  I would very much appreciate any info you have
Many thanks

Hi KPM,
Wouldn't be at all surprised if there is a connection of some sort.

The following children are all of Thomas and Ann, all baptised at Shalford, the three birth dates were also noted as being at Shalford.
George 26 Sep 1731.
Henry 26 Jun 1743 (born 7 Jun 1743).
Samuel 22 May 1746 (born 27 Apr 1746).
Steel 16 Mar 1748 (born 23 Feb 1748).
Elizabeth 28 Dec 1760.
Thomas 1 Apr 1763.
Martin 1 Apr 1763.
Sarah 11 Mar 1764.
Samuel 4 Oct 1767.
Martin 25 Jun 1769.

I didn't attempt to determine if the children all belong to the same Thomas and Ann.  George especially looks a little suspect, after noting the 12 year gap between George and Henry I did a recheck on George's baptism date.

Also of possible interest is Thomas, son of Edward and Sarah Willus baptised 26 Jul 1740 at Shalford.  The baptism entry noted he was about 8 years of age when baptised.

Noticed these too:-
Thomas son of George and Elizabeth Willows baptised 18 Sep 1739 at Gt Saling.
Thomas son of William and Elizabeth Willis baptised 14 Dec 1744 at Black Notley.
I only mention them in case at some time you need to determine if more than one set of parents named Thomas and Ann were involved with the Shalford lot.

All the above entries were obtained personally from the relevant PR fiche at the ERO.  Also noticed were Willis families around roughly the same period at Lt Sampford, Gt & Barfield Saling and Felsted, in the late 1700s at Stebbing.

Good luck Grin

You're welcome

By the way just found something else which may be of use sometime, a Thomas Willis married Ann Brown 26 Apr 1757 at Shalford.

Good Luck
