I am trying to locate a great uncle of mine and wonder if anyone can help me. His name was John Smith Allan born to Robert & Elsie (Elspet, Elspeth, Elizabeth) nee,Gordon Allan. He was born Aberdeen 1891 and brought up in Aberdeen Scotland. After the Census of 1901 I can find no further trace of him. He did not die in Scotland right Upton 1954, I can find no marriage for him in Scotland up to 1926. I can find no trace of him in the Commonwealth War Graves, there is only one John Smith Allan with the British Army but he is not my man. His elder sister and two other brothers emigrated to America and Canada but the elusive John Smith Allan is still missing. If itchy feet is something in the family could he have went to Oz?
Could any kind person have a look in and try and locate him for me. Out of his brothers and sisters he is the only one I don't have a lead on.
I had a look in the New South Wales BDM index for a marriage for John, there were five results for John S. Allan:
6174/1914 ALLAN JOHN S THOMPSON MARY E PETERSHAM 10996/1921 ALLAN JOHN S CUPITT OLIVE M PETERSHAM 8987/1925 ALLAN JOHN S GREY PHYLLIS H KIAMA 2927/1927 ALLAN JOHN S MORRIS LENA CASINO 15055/1927 ALLAN JOHN S WATERS IVY M SYDNEY
If you want to check any of these records, you can obtain a transcript (cheaper than a certificate) from NSW record agent, Marilyn Rowan:
She charges a smaller fee for confirmation of details, ie. the right parents, etc.

it appears only as recently as last night that brothers and sister of John (Jock) Smith Allan who we knew has emigrated to Barre, Vermont, America their grandchildren have got in contact. It would appear that it is possible John Smith stayed in the States but I have not ruled out that he went to Australia after.
