Hello, Monica...I think I may have the death date for Martha as 1900? From the BMD....oh...wait that's where I must have gotten the Henry death info, too. Silly me! Deaths Mar 1900 Blunt Martha 89 Atcham 6a 577 Although it's funny I couldn't find her in the 1881 census
Brilliant to find her in Cambridgeshire! She had quite the housefull of gals at home...maybe she needed a break! ...Note that most in the household are living on interest of money!
Many Thanks! jeany

Just based on the information from the last census...Martha was with Mansells....so I thought that I would try that search, as Henry never came up under marriages...but this resulted!!! Now there were as many men on the page as women, but does that mean that maybe he wasn't transcribed yet, or am I grasping at straws, here... ?

Never mind...I am grasping at straws as she would have been listed as aunt or what ever, not as visitor... but could have been a clue...as I did find a Martha mansell 1812, but she was born in Farnham, Surrey...nothing else matched either... The young vicar was born in Maole Brace also, I just found. Not sure what that means.. You certainly have been more than a great help. Perhaps you can help me with more of my Blunt family in Shrewsbury...? Do you two have to pay for this information which you have found for me?
Can't thank you enough for all the help...Jeany
p.s. just to show you that the census takers took liberty with name spelling... Emily's last name was dawkins...but the nephew is written as Dakyns...

Hi again
I've found the household in the 1891 census:
Still at Brookside, Meole Brace.
Martha Blunt, Head, Widow, 80, Living on own means, b. London, Chelsea. Emily Blunt, Daughter, Single, 48, Living on own means, b. Shrewsbury. Agnes Blunt, Daughter, Single, 46, Artist, Painting, b. Shrewsbury. Elizabeth Emma Jones, Single, 15, Servant, General, b. Atcham, Salop.
RG12/2113, folio 66, page 1.
You've got Henry and Ellen in the 1891 census in Bedford. I can't find Anne anywhere. As she was listed as an imbecile in the earlier census, you'll probably be looking for an early death date.
No luck with the 1881 but I'm still looking.
(The searches aren't costing me anything as I have a year's use of Ancestry. I've come to a halt with my own research until I visit some Record Offices and I'm not well enough at the moment to get out much, so it's really enjoyable to get to grips with a new puzzle.)

Okay - 1881 census so far:
5 Argyll St, Bedford St Peter, Bedfordshire.
Henry Blunt, Head, M, 33, Private Tutor, B.A. Cambridge, b. Shrewsbury. Agnes Blunt, Wife, M, 25, b. Nottingham, Notts. Mary Agnes Blunt, Daughter, 3, b. Bedford, Beds. John Henry Blunt, Son, 7mths, b. Bedford, Beds.
RG11/1619, folio 47, pages 42 & 43.
---------------------------------
1881 census:
Rhydd Court Mansion, Hanley Castle, Worcestershire.
Ellen M Blunt, U, 34, Governess, b. Meole Brace, Shropshire.
Ellen and six servants are living in the mansion with Joceline Alban Lechmere, 9, son, and Catherine M Lechmere, 6, daughter. No parents at home on census night.
I can give you all the servants’ details if you want them.
RG11/2919, folio 23, p. 4.
(Rhydd Court is a big mansion - it has been a boys’ boarding school in recent years until it was shut down because of a child abuse scandel.)
-----------------------------------
But - no Martha, Emily or Agnes.
Maybe someone else reading your thread will have more luck. I think I've searched in every way I can try.
Good luck, Monica

Wow, Monica...you have just been great... If & when you are up to it, I would love it if you would help me with my line of the Blunts in Shrewsbury....Henry's brother Thomas W. Blunt was my Great Great Grandfather... I have a few blanks that I need help with. Could I direct you to that thread, or would I ask within this one?

I just found Agnes in 1881 The Rectory, Fladbury, Worcester, England Private Governess Head of Household....William P.A. CAMPBELL and a huge list of those in household... Tried only the name Blunt with +-birthdates, but couldn't locate Emily or Martha, either. J.J.

Hi JJ
I was going to ask you about other Blunts because I came across Thomas P Blunt in the 1881, born and living in Shrewsbury, also a Chemist. I wondered if there was some connection.
I should start a new thread to follow up your own line. That way, other people won't miss information that may be useful to them. I know I find it easier when looking through threads if each one is a self-contained subject.
It may be worth putting a separate post on to see if anyone can find Emily or Martha in the 1881 census. However they may not be there to find. Some people just seem to have missed out getting listed, especially if they were away from home.

Keep meaning to say how much I enjoyed your website - love the horrorscopes!
And the murals and the rest. Seeing that picture of your younger sister, it's no wonder your parents encouraged you to train. It's lovely.

Hi Monica
I came across Thomas P Blunt in the 1881 too. But had no luck with Emily or Martha.
I'm still looking though.......I hate being beaten

Monica & J.J.
Can you just clarify exactly which of the daughters we are looking for in 1881? I know this might sound like a dumb question, but after reading back through the posts I am left wondering.
It may be worth putting a separate post on to see if anyone can find Emily or Martha in the 1881 census. However they may not be there to find. Some people just seem to have missed out getting listed, especially if they were away from home.
Monica
Is Martha not this one?:
1881 census:
Rhydd Court Mansion, Hanley Castle, Worcestershire.
Ellen M Blunt, U, 34, Governess, b. Meole Brace, Shropshire.
1871 census
Ellen Martha Blunt, daughter, U, 24, Governess, b. Meole Brace.
This is from the 1861 census, Ellen Martha Blunt, daughter, U, 24, Governess, b. Meole Brace
Or have I completely lost the plot?

Hi Jan
It is getting confusing, isn't it? As JJ is offline at the moment I'll tell you where (I think) we've got to.
We have found most of the family in the censuses except for mother, Martha b. 1812, and daughters Emily b. 1843 and Annie b. 1852, if she didn't die until 1887.
Good hunting! Monica

Oh thanks for that Monica! At last I know where I am. I didn't realise that the Mother was missing in 1881
The repeated christian names are certainly very confusing - I'm sure we all have them in our Trees!
At least I now know who I'm looking for
