Can anyone help pleeese??

Trying to trace any information relating to JAMES GILMOUR BARR son of  Neil Barr & Janet Cameron.
Greenock
My father was illegitimate son of Christina McCulloch born 1896 Port Glasgow, she married Joseph Hutton in 1898  I presume  my father was then known as James Hutton (he was listed so on the 1901 census) however, he later assumed the name of Barr, perhaps when his mother died in 1914?

Would love to know more!!!
