Hi,
Looking for a John Bowers and Mary Ann Bowers (nee Sale).
Both born 1817-1820 (they probably fibbed on their marriage certificate).
Mary born Rivington, Lancs. Father John Sale living at Rivington in the '51 and '61 census.
John Bowers born Stockport, possibly Edgeley.
Married in 1838 at Cheadle. Don't turn up until in Lancashire (Barton) in 1861. Resident Lancashire until death.
Have been unable to locate them in the '41 and '51 censuses in Lancashire and am hoping someone can spot them in Cheshire.

Hi
Had a look at the Stockport and Cheadle area and they are not there in 41/51.
Did he have any children in Stockport, maybe showing in the 61 census ?

Hi Peter,
Firstly let me thank you for looking in the Stockport/Cheadle area. You've answered an important question in that they weren't resident there. I have previously posted a request for a look-up in the Lancashire area and have no doubts that others have tried to find them with no success - unsung as they are. This is one of those frustrating situations where I'm unable to pursue two branches without a little more information - particularly with reference to what their stated birth places might be on the '51 census. However, this is the entire chronology/geography;
1818-1820 John Bowers born Stockport(?)
1818-1820 Mary Ann Sale born Rivington,Lancs.
1838 Married Cheadle.Resident Edgeley,Stockport,Ches.
1847 Daug.Margaret Bowers born Manchester.
1851 Daug.Maria Bowers born Manchester.
1853 Daug.Mary Ann Bowers born Swinton,Lancs.
1856 Daug.Fanny Bowers born Worsley,Lancs.
1861 Census resident Dains Cottage,Barton,Lancs.
1862 Daug.Martha Bowers born Worsley,Lancs.
1871 Census John resident 16 Eimeo St.,Pendleton,Lancs.
Mary resident 3 Chapel Place,Pendleton,Lancs.
1881 Census John resident 69,CromptonSt.,Farnworth,Lancs.
