Hi all
Did I miss a thread about using these delightful little inventions? I'd rather use one than have my email address on my site or have outlook do the job. Anyone using them? WOuld be grateful for any tips!
Cheers Ger

I've got a visitors book form on my site - from Web Diner. The problem is I needed to find some software to translate the forms into something meaningful. I eventually found some freeware, but it is a bit of a fiddle. Having fried the motherboard on my main pc a week or so ago, I can't tell you what that "translation" freeware is, but hopefully when I'm repaired and back and running I can - so watch this space.

I haven't got my pc back yet, but remembered that I'd posted some information about the translation software I mentioned on here - see this link

And now I have finally found details of the translation software I use with the web diner guest book. It's called ULRcook. You can download it from:
http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Email_Tools/Mail_Encoders_Decoders/URLcook.html
Hope this is helpful. PM me if you need more info.

Some web space has PHP scripting enabled.
If you have, I can write you a PHP script to allow emails to be sent via the site. If you're interested, give me a shout.

Nice one !,
At the moment most RootsChatters just have an e-mail address, as they don't know how to do input forms.
Maybe you could put up a simple example here, (a from: field and a text field) for starters, with a link instruction, so people can add it to their site ??
The requests for special features will probably then come, when the first ideas have been tried out

OK I'll write one tonight and get it posted as soon as I can. Shouldn't take too long as its a very easy script.
I've had a bit of a think and I think I've come up with a simple way of doing it but I'll have to just wriet the script. I can't add an example because the only way I can think of adding something for everyone to play with opens up Outlook or whatever email program you use anyway.
I'll add stuff like a drop-down box to select where they found the site (like Google etc.), surname they're interested in contacting the site owner about and whatever anyone else can think of. As you can say, I can add more features as it grows.
I'm off to Tescos now to do some food shopping before I get dragged out the door

This is the very first version:
This is the entire file, copy and paste this as a text editor and save it as something like "emailme.php" and upload onto your web space. You can call it anything you want just make sure you have it end in .php and not .htm or .html and link to it as you would any normal file.
It might look a bit of a mess but thats because I've allowed the user to configure it by enter their own values into the define statements. Any problems post here and I'll answer them as soon as I can.
See this working: http://rootschat.tempercreations.co.uk/emailme.php
Give it a proper test - the emails go to my spam inbox.
Features: * Won't send the email to you if name, email and message aren't completed * Nicely formatted using a borderless table (aesthetics) * Tells you if the email failed to send
Latest version (v1.00): http://rootschat.tempercreations.co.uk/emailme.phps
I've not added any acknowledgement text as I'll leave that entirely up to you as not everyone wants it there

Hi Zeb,
As Trystan said, "that's great !"
let's keep the feedback on here for now, and if it gets too cluttered, we'll start a new thread .
I've added this to the Topics list. Topic: TOPICS: Help with building your website. 7. Extras http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,70811.msg289888.html#msg289888
