Hello all,
I am researching the name Piper for friends who asked me to do so on their behalf. I will endeavour to keep this in chronological order so will mention the earliest date that each site contains in the hope that it will be easy for other researchers to follow. Some sites may be mentioned more than once this enables one to find each Piper on that site -
German Palatinate surnames
In the eighteenth century there was migration to Ireland from the Palatinate of the Rhine in Germany. These German refugees settled principally in Limerick around 1709, and their seperate culture remained intact up until the early 1900s. Palatinate surnames to be found in and around: Court, Matrix, Ballingran, Killiheen, and Adare in Limerick were: Baker, Bovanizer, Bowen, Doube, Delmege, Gillard, Latchford, Ligier, Millar, Lodwig, Modlar, Pyper, Reynard, Ruttle, Shire, Stark, and Switzer. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishancestors/Surnames/Groups.html

Jacob Pyper's parents were Julius Pyper and Catherine (nee Alton). They had five children including Jacob, Dora, Esther, James and Julius.
Jacob Pyper moved from Co. Limerick to Ballykinlar, Co. Down in the north of Ireland before World War I to join the British army. His sister and brother moved north with him. Republicans and the IRA squatted in the family farm they left behind them. The family fought to get the value of the farm for many years and finally about 1980 the Irish Government paid them the value of their Co. Limerick farm.

Good Morning All,
I spotted this phrase Please submit any of your Piper research interests - UK only. You might find some distant cousins http://www.cpiper.freeserve.co.uk/index.htm The Piper Genealogy is included in One Name Studies Sites with BMD indexes, Census or Parish Records On-line www.ukbmd.org.uk/index.php?form_action=ons I did some more searching and discovered that of 800 Palatine families in Ireland in 1710 by the year 1712 that number of families had been reduced to 263. www.teskey.org/tskomnibus.html Of the families that left Ireland, some returned to their homeland, some to England and the rest emigrated to America. In view of this I feel restricting a search to " UK Only " lessens the chances of people finding some of those distant cousins and under the circumstances I sent the following to Glenn Piper.
Good Morning Glenn,
Would you think for a minute and clarify this comment which I found on your web site please -Please submit any of your Piper research interests-UK only. You might find some distant cousins I regret I have some difficulty understanding precisely what you mean. Obviously it means something to you but to someone like myself, an Irishman living in the Province of Ulster with many English and Scots ancestors it is a totally meaningless expression. Do you require a lengthy history lesson or will you accept my word that from 1800 until 1922 the whole island of Ireland was a part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Since 1922 to the present date the United Kingdom has consisted of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Perhaps you mean UK only and not places across the English Channel in mainland Europe.
I look forward, as I am sure people in Ireland named Piper also will look forward, to a detailed explanation
Kind regards, Christopher Peake
The following reply was received from Glenn Piper

Christopher,
Thanks for initiating this topic and getting some great information.
My Great-Great Grandfather was Uriah Pyper born about 1833 and died in 1902. His father was, I believe one James Piper who was a farmer in Adare in 1853. James Piper's wife was Elizabeth Delmage born about 1810. I am trying to find more information on James Piper and Elizabeth Delmage and I am also trying to tie James Piper back into the Piper's of Rathkeale.
