The original of this photo is very faded, and my husband managed to improve it a little using our scanner software. Can anyone do anything to make the face clearer? I would also appreciate any ideas about an approximate date, because although I've tried several sites, I haven't found a match for the hat, and I'm not sure who the lady is.

In that case, it should be Helen, who was born in 1850. She must have been visiting her mother at the time, as the photo was taken in Bath, and by 1895 Helen lived in Manchester. However, I have another earlier photo of her with her mother and son, also taken on a visit to Bath - she just likes to confuse the issue...
I'll try to post another pic of Helen for comparison - I think this one is from around 1890 because of the sleeves.
