 :DHi All

I have been doing a study of this name for many years, so has anyone out there got this name in their tree.

Any info gratefully accepted, I will also look through my database which I am refining at the moment for any info that may help you if you Scurr's in the family.

I have a birth certificate for a Winifred May Billings which gives her mother's maiden name as Elizabeth Scurr.  Elizabeth was born in London about 1860. Any ideas?

Hi Jean

I have checked my entries from the GRO index and census entries.

There were 4 births of an Elizabeth Scurr registered between 1850 & 1865. 2 in Cumbria, 1 in Yorkshire and 1 in Shoreditch, London which may be the one you want.
Reg Dec Qtr Shoreditch 1852 Elizabeth Scurr. Her parents were John William Scurr & Mary Ann Mitchell.
In 1861 she is listed on the census in Bishopgate, London as being born Kingsland, London.
1871 she is a servant in Tower Hamlets, London
1881 she is a Cook in Lee, Kent.

I have a record that Elizabeth Scurr married Thomas William Billings Dec Qtr 1885, Poplar

Hope this helps

Sharon
That is great.  I am looking for the marriage of Thomas Billings to Elizabeth Scurr. These are the names on the birth certificate of Winifred May Billings who married Robert Spier McLauchlan and emigrated to Australia.
Thanks very much

Hi Jean

Was the father listed as being a Hairdresser on the birth certificate??

If so I may have found them on 1891 & 1901 census

Hi Sharon
Yes he was a hairdresser!  I have him on the 1901 but not the 1891. Any information would be welcome.

I posted this in the Cumberland section a few months ago, in answer to a posting

"Found a Scurr, in Whitehaven

Jos (Joseph)? Scurr married a Mary Gill both of this parish on 25th May 1833 @ St James, Whitehaven, Cumberland, neither could write"

Lorraine

Had a quick look and I have found 45 Scurrs on the 1881 census in this area (Cumberland) alone, I am going to have a look in the other censuses

Do you have any dates or places for your father's father
