Grainger....Heanor and District
« on: Saturday 14 August 04 23:08 BST (UK) »

Peter Grainger from Codnor Park b 1842.
In 1881 he lived with his family at Bridge Hill Row Heanor, in 1871 they lived on Aldercar Lane. His wife was Hannah Grundy b1842. Is anyone else researching this family?

Aldercar lane of census times is not the same Aldercar lane which we know present day.

Present day Aldercar lane is the lane which is more or less opposite St Johns church and leads down to Stoneyford Boat.

In the days of the census Aldercar lane was the stretch of Road  from the (now demolished) Aldercar Infants school up to St Johns Church leading on to Woodlinkin -now known as part of Cromford Rd

Gary,
It looks like William's parents are possibly John and hannah.

And William's p.o.b. varies from census to census-although it is stilll within an area

1891
living Temple Normanton - p.o.b. given as Langley Mill

1881 p.o.b. Dunstead Notts (Dunstead is an area between langley Mill and Aldercar (postal address Notts, but is actually in Derbys and comes in heanor census district.

1871 William not at home with wife but is in Yorks and p.o.b. Codnor Derbys

1861
living Codnor Derbys pp.o.b. given as Codnor & c Derbys (this area is Codnor Park - you can go through langley Mill, Dunstead to get to Codnor Park.

1851 William is not with family -but visiting the Ratliff family - I suspect he is visiting his married sister

1841 William's parents are at Codnor park

William's parents had more than 7 children.

Harriet gives her p.o.b. consistently as Mapperley Derbys

This looks like William's marriage
Sept qtr 1845 Belper district
William Grainger
Harriet Welvin
19 436

Harriet's birth reg is "Wilvin" and her family are entered as this on census returns.
Her family lived at Park Hall Mapperley Derbys- I've been there today!!!!

If you need any census details please ask- maybe William is related to Peter Grainger -as it seems he was b. Codnor park

will have a look around

Gilld,

In 1881 your Peter Grainger was living at Bridge Hill Row Aldercar (not heanor)- on the enumerators walk it comes after Ormonde Terrace -if you remember the area, I think Bridge Hill Row was the row of houses (virtually on the railway bridge) at the bottom of Prmonde Terrace (and Street) -just off Cromford Rd (which was Aldercar lane at that time)

1861 living at Stoneyford

1851 living at Crowfields (an area between Stoney ford and Codnor)

1841 Peter was 2 mths old and living "part of Codnor and Loscoe" address given as "Codnor" Parents gervase and Elizabeth

one of William Grainger's brothers was "Gervase/Jarvis Jervase-so many spellings of that name - wondering if possibly Peter's father and William's father were perhaps brothers??? Maybe worth investigating.

this looks like peter's birth reg (transcribed as Granger)
Peter Granger
Jun qtr 1841
Basford district
15 439

Hope this helps
