Hi Jennifer

I was at the Archives today so looked up the relevant files.

There are a lot of documents in his Estate File.

It appears that he worked for Cleghorn & Harris - drapers & outfitters situated in Adderley Street, Cape Town.

It also appears that 150 Long Street was a Lodging House called Croft Chambers owned by him and run by Emmerentia Hester Briedenhann for £10 per month & a free room.  She worked for him for 5 years.  She subsequently purchased the business from the Estate and took over the Lease.

A. Montgomery paid Union Motor Supply Company the garaging for BJ Moon's car, a 1938 Chev, for one month on instruction of BJ Moon.  There is a claim in the file from him for this.  The car was subsequently purchased by Union Motor Supply Company for £260.

The company Funerals (Pty) Ltd comprising two branches, Wasserfal, Hardick and Goodall & Williams and were situated at 17 Dorp Street and 15 Dorp Street respectively.

Ada Nubel was the cousin of BJ Moon's deceased wife and godmother to Irene.  She was married to William Henry Nubel.

According to a Affidavit made by EH Briedenhann, BJ Moon took ill on 23 January 1946 and was "laid up" in her room where she administered to him day and night for a period of three weeks and three days.  He was advised by his doctor to go to a nursing home but he refused.

I have a pic of the Nubel signature which I found on another document which I am attaching.  I have various other pics as well which may be of interest to you as they are mostly the source of what I have told you.

Regards
Moira

Hi Jennifer

My searching seems to have run to a dead end on Nubel.  I have only managed to find a complaint William Nuber made to the City Coucil about a fowl run on a neighbour's property.  His address was "Windover", Bayview Avenue, St Michael's Estate.  I don't know of St Michael's Estate today and think that it has probably been incorporated into the Tamboerskloof suburb as his neighbour's address is Varsity Road, Tamboerskloof.

I have checked our local telephone directory and there is no Nubel listed.

Good luck in your search for Irene & Edith.

Regards

Hi Jennifer

Yes, there are churches around that area but church records...... hhhmmmm.  I have searched and searched online but only come across "church records are not available online...." or "records are very fragile"  or "records have been lost" or "are about to be destroyed as there is nowhere to store them" (go figure that one!!).

I found on www.familytree.co.za that they are looking for volunteers to transcribe, amongst other things, church records.  The best part is the Cape will be done first!  I think I hear a job calling me......

I will keep a lookout and if I find anything, I will let you know.
