As I breeze through the families and neighbours of my ancestors in Weymouth, the following streets are of importance for much of the time period beyond 1850 and likely before.
Starting with No. 1 Hope street, Louisa Rose Zelley would be born there in May 1881, but the family would emigrate to Canada in 1883, so the young Rose wouldn't get to know her Weymouth kinfolk or the neighbours. Of interest, in the 1900's No. 1 would become a place called the "White House". Funny thing at one time Thomas WHITE and Ann Charlotte BELLAMY lived on Hope street, but had nothing to do with the community facility known as the White House.
Rose's uncle William George BAKER would wed one of the Storey girls and move to Bournemouth. Not far from Hope Street was Cove Row where at one time we could find Edward STOREY and the one called Mary AYLES. But on Cove Street, I wonder how many folks would have stayed at Mary MABEY's "Old Room Inn".
At one time the old ex-Coastgurd member Richard ZELLEY and Mary Ann lived at Trinity Street. And in the late 1900's. I wonder how many folks popped into the tea house at No. 11 or the take away next door! Over the years, many a folk would call Trinity Street or Trinity Road home be it The JETSY family or the widow Rebecca BUCK. Old Rebecca would pass away at about 82 in 1891.
Another family in the area was the HONEYBUN family that would have connections to such families as LOVELL, SYMES, and BOWDITCH
Of course, if we start looking into the LOVELL families, that would also take us to such places as The Fleet, Chickerell and Langton Herring. Then what about the other local families such as CHICK, MARSHALLSAY, BOWRING, PEARCE, RANDALL, & JOLLIFFE.
With many tangled branches of the many greater Weymouth families is it not surprising that some would be connected to a MAYO, KELLAWAY, COX and JEFFRIES.

Zelley It was good to read your writings about 'Hope tp Trinity' in Weymouth. Some of the Jolliffes you mentioned would have been my ancestors.
The road names you mentioned are very familiar and there is still an 'Old Rooms Inn'

I have a Lovell connection only in that Sarah Lovell is married to Arthur Jolliffe. The information I have was passed to me by someone else who has done a lot of work on the Jolliffe name.

We could add the Hope Quay to Cove Row to our little slice of Weymouth. It is most interesting following the various families some are connected by blood or marriage. How I like discussing those such as George John FLISHER. one of the grandsons to Thomas WHITE and Ann Charlotte BELLAMY, and a cousin of Elizabeth Bellamy ZELLEY. Or the various members of the VALLENS/VALENCE - MABB family. or the life and times of William George BAKER (the shoemaker). We could TRIP ALONG and TALK ABOUT the LOVELL - HONEYBUN Branch. Or the trials a tribulations of members of the PURCHASE family and their ZELLEY/ZEALY connections. But the AYLES and PEARCE families would be of interest.

As this is December, I wonder how many December birth, marriages and deaths we can list for Hope to Trinity or even Cove Row and the street they called High Street.
To prime the pump: 1878: December Thirtieth at No. 1 Hope Street saw the birth of Elizabeth Kate Zelley. If we were to travel through the decades, we could find some of her great great grandchildren is Washington State in the Pacific Northwest - I believe Johnston or Johnstone is one of the names scattered about between Spokane & Seattle.

Arthur Jolliffe lived in Cove Street (Cove Row?) in 1861 and 1871. He died 9 December 1899 - although in Upwey - not in the outer harbour area of Weymouth.
His parents - William Jolliffe and Sarah Cheney - lived in Cove Street in the 1861, 1871 and 1881 censuses.
William Jolliffe was a drayman for the brewery - I wonder therefore if they lived ina brewery owned house as in much later years a number of houses in that vicinity were owned by the brewery and let to employees.

In 1861, some of mine were at No. 1 Cove e.g. Thomas & Ann (Bellamy) WHITE, their daughter Emma Martha White who would later marry John Flisher, and Charlotte Lydia Zelley was at the White abode at the time of the Census.
A few places away there was the widow Elizabeth JOLLIFFE. And recorded in No. 9 was your William and Sarah JOLLIFFE

As we expand beyond the confines of Trinity & Hope, a fixture on Love Lane was Francis LEE, the Love Lane Bootmaker.
Over the decades, some old familiar Weymouth names lived on Love Lane from time-to-time such as: BOLT, CHICK, HOUNSELL, JOLLIFFE and TIZARD.
Now, if we mentioned the many folks of Boot Lane, there would likely be a bootmaker's apprentice or two.

Well had another look at the folks residing in the Hope Street area in 1891. Some old familiar names including Lovell, Grant, Carter, Pearce, Ellis, Randall, Zelley, Symes and Tizard. In some cases the various names are connected such as Lovell and Grant.
Of interest, one Elizabeth Bellamy ZELLEY was residing at the digs of her sister Charlotte Lydia (Zelley) Pearce. Elsewhere at Hope Way - retired mariner William Grant was residing at the home of his son-in-law Richard LOVELL.
If we travel back in time, some of the names can be traced to the Fleet, Chickerell & Langton Herring area while others are from the Wyke Regis area.
The Bellamy name can be traced to one Ann Charlotte BELLAMY. She married Thomas WHITE of Wyke Regis.

It has been a long time since we touched on the folks of Hope, Cove and Trinity in Weymouth. Any additions or comments are welcome from others.
