Hi Paulnet30

I was also born a Jolliffe and have a fair bit of Jolliffe  information (much of it worked on by others before I got it) so lets see if we can link any of this.

From the earlier messages on this link between you and Zelly it looks as though your grandfather was the William Arthur Jolliffe born to Henry Francis Jolliffe and Alice Cook.

Henry and Alice were married in the apr/may/jun quarter of 1915.

And as Zelly said there is a Henry Francis Jolliffe born in 1893.

Bear in mind much of the rest I am saying is supposition from quick viewings of census and marriage/birth record on the web.

In the 1901 census there is a Henry Jolliffe aged 8. Full family is
Francis Jolliffe age 30 born Portland
Jane Jolliffe age 31 born Weymouth
Beatrice Jolliffe age 9
Henry Jolliffe age 8
Herbert Jolliffe age 3
William Jolliffe age 1
Living at 12 Oakley Place, Weymouth

There is an 1890 marriage of Francis George Jolliffe in Weymouth District to Jane Swindles. Which would be about right for the ages of the children.

In 1891 Francis and Jane are living at 1 Jubilee Terrace with his mother Eliza Jolliffe.

In 1881 Frank (Francis) is with his family at Cheslie Portland.
William Jolliffe 42 Plumber born Barnett (this may complicate things)
Eliza Jolliffe 43 Weymouth
William Jolliffe 19 Weymouth
Eliza Jolliffe 17 Weymouth
Alfred Jolliffe 16 Weymouth
Frank Jolliffe 10 Weymouth (they may have reported this incorrectly)
Mivia Jolliffe 9 Portland (daughter but name not clear)

In 1871 Victoria Terrace Chisel Portland
William Jolliffe 32 Plumber, Painter & Glazier born Dorset (different from 1881)
Eliza Jolliffe 36 Dorset
William Jolliffe 9 Dorset
Mary A Jolliffe 7 Dorset (is this the same child as Eliza in 1881)
Alfred Jolliffe 5 Dorset
Francis 8 months Dorset

In 1862 there is marriage entry in Weymouth District which include two names of William Jolliffe and Eliza Randalls.

Remember this is supposition from looking at the census records and would all need checking - but it may be a start.

Regards

Debbie

In 1841 there is a William Jolliffe born in Barnet London.

If you were only to get limited certificates this birth and the possible marriage of William and Eliza may be a good bet.

To expand the JOLLIFFE discussion, I have added a thread to the one name interest section.  Hopefully, some of us can discuss the various branches and attempt to outline the various family groups.
