I have no idea what C275 is or where it is but I hope it does the trick for you. It is described as an unpublished aid. Perhaps this has been interpreted by someone as meaning that the public is denied access to C275. But this would be an absurd interpretation if the documents themselves are available to the public but an index/calendar to them is not.
I have found in this genealogy lark that if I am faced with a labyrinth/mountain/maze of documents it's a good idea to ask myself how would the people of yore go about what I am trying to do and sometimes that line of thought will lead me to an easier route.
Just a final thought: not every change of name got enrolled so you may be looking for something which is not there. I hope that last sentence doedn't make you Cry

Thanks for that Clincher. Yes we did know that not all name changes were registered. We are following a 'Family Story' handed down of course. In doing so we have searched every book containing the initial D at the FRC from the first hand written ones up to date. So far everything has been proved correct, and the person concerned did say that it had been registered offically. It is very hard to let this go, any little snippet of info just has to be examined as much as possible. Thanks again, Frances
