Hi Guys,
it looks as a lot of my crowd went to Barre, Vermont during the early part of the 1900s. They bare the name of James and Isabella Allan who stayed in Merchant Street, Barre and is buried in Hope Cemetery, Barre - his exact grave number is not known but it is near or adjacent to a family grave with the name Cato. I believe that they had no children.
Any help on this one is appreciated,
Swally

What exactly are you looking for? Census, bmd's, immigration etc. Do you have some more details such as dates? Would help to get a response.

sorry about that,
I know that James stayed in Broxburn Scotland upto 1923 and then moved with his wife Isabella to Barre, Vermont. It looks as though his wife took citizenship around 1923 - 25 and James in 1928, (don't know why the time difference) They appear on the Barre City Census 1930. I know that he is buried in Barre cemetry I don't know which grave but is near a family name Cato Merchant Street also has some bearing in the story too.
It is possible that he may have been a stonemason as all his brothers who came gave the same occupation but I am not aware of any who actually were stonemasons
Any light you can shed on James & Issabella or Bella as she was known is appreciated.

Case closed,
I found their grave, she died in 1934 and James in 1935, a kind chap at the Historical Society of Barre went and took a few great pictures. I don't beleive that they had any kids.
Thanks,
Swally

Update,
I have since found the following
James died 9/03/1935 A single pistol shot to the head, self inflicted would. M.D William McFarlane was the doctor on site. He resided at South Main Street, Barre. He was widowed (obviously). He committed suicide at 3pm He was 41 years 7 months and 15 days old when he died. This entry is available in the 1935 Edition, Volume 34 Page 40 Isabella died 26/03/1934 Uniary Infection, Pnuemonia & Myocardial something or other M.D William McFarlane was the doctor on site. She resided at 40 Elm Street, Barre She was married to James Allan. She was pronounced dead at 9.45 am She was 47 years, 3 months & 18 days old This entry is available in the 1934 Edition, Volume 33 Page 31
Thanks to all who contributed to this, if anyone could look up the newspaper headlines for Barre, Vermont for the suicide of James I would be obliged.
Thanks,
Swally
