Ladyman
« on: Monday 26 September 05 21:31 BST (UK) » |

I am seeking any information about the parents/siblings of:
1) Sarah Ladyman born 1 August 1842, place of birth not known, who married George Peskett in 1864 in St. George's, Hanover Square, Middlesex
2) Elizabeth Ladyman born c1830 in Claydon married to David Roberts. He was from Evenley.
I suspect that Sarah & Elizabeth were sisters but am not sure about this. Their father may have been named John.

I would start by looking at the GRO indexes. (for the 1842 birth anyway)
freebmd.rootsweb.com/ www.ancestry.com (neither are complete)
www.bmdindex.co.uk www.1837online.com

Thanks very much for this.
I believe that Sarah's father was named John and that he was a carpenter although I do not know whether he was also the father of 'my' Elizabeth.
Ladyman seems to be quite an unusual name so I would be very surprised if the family you have found is not connected in some way especially as they are living in the same area - cousins perhaps?

Hi Tazzie
It has been suggested to me that although Elizabeth was born in Claydon she lived in Evenley in Northants which is where her husband was from and that her mother and siblings lived there also.
A John Ladyman died in 1856 in Brackley, which is very close to Evenley. However, I am not sure whether this is my John. If I can ascertain the occupation of the John that died in 1856 this might help to clarify things a bit.

On the IGI there are 2 entries submitted by LDS members so not necessarily accurate
Elizabeth Ladyman Birth 11 Oct 1829, Steeple Claydon, Buckingham Father John Ladyman Mother Hannah King
Sarah Ladyman Christening 1841 Steeple Claydon, Buckingham Father William Ladyman Mother Charlotte King

Looks like this Elizabeth & Sarah are cousins, possibly on both sides of their families.
If my Sarah's father was, in fact, called John then I wonder whether the Elizabeth that you found in the LDS had a sister named Sarah and that they were both cousins of the Sarah b1841 in the LDS and that all 3 of them share common maternal & paternal grandparents?
It's all getting a bit complicated!

Hi Tazzie
This is great - thanks very much for all your hard work on this. I have a 3yr old daughter and can well appreciate the trouble that you must have fitting your research around Adam's various requirements!!!!!
There seem to have been 2 Sarah Ladymans born around the same time: the first in 1841 to William Ladyman and Charlotte King and the second in 1842 to John Ladyman and Hannah King. It seems to be a case of 2 brothers marrying 2 sisters!
My main interest is in Sarah Ladyman, born 1 August1842, and her parents, John Ladyman and Hannah King, and their ancestors as they are in my direct line.
Any information at all regarding these lines will be very much appreciated.
Regards
Andrew
