Dickson Family
« on: Tuesday 27 September 05 05:53 BST (UK) »

Looking for family and information on the family of William Wilson Dickson (B25/07/1921) married to Margaret Noble Reid (B12/11/1918)

Georgina Dickson was William's sister.

William's parents were David Wilson Dickson and Agnes Meikle Moore.

Georgina Dicksonwas born in East Whitburn

Hi Donna,

The chances are these people could still be alive, so I think you'll struggle to get anything.

Scotland's People (www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk) has the following:

Births 1855-1904, Marriages 1855-1929, Deaths 1855-1954 (Statutory Registrations) and the 1901 Cencus (amongst others).

It's a pay per view site but you'll be able to find the marriage of David Wilson Dickson and Agnes Meikle Moore and download the certificate. From this you'll get both sets of parents names, addresses, ages etc.

Good Luck,

Anne

Hey Anne

I've actually got the parents details - just looking for any relatives or anyone with information regarding those families.

I got stuck about 3 generations back behind the Dickson line and the Moore line - well Agnes' father was born in Ireland somewhere.  I've got a bit of info on her mother's lines.

Thanks

Hello Donna, do you know how Agnes came to be called Agnes Meikle? Was she named after a particular Agnes Meikle that you know of?

Lindsay

Hi Lindsay,

Agnes was my paternal grandmother, her mother was Mary Conway.  Mary's mother was Jessie Meikle.  I'm assuming that Meikle was added in because of the grandparents line?  I believe that Jessie was born in Lanarkshire in 1842.

I haven't found anyone that is related that can verify or give me more details.

Is there any connections in your family?

Hello Donna, I can't tell - I have many Jessie and Agnes Meikles but I can't find one about the right timescales, married to the right person.

I am assuming by Jessie Meikle born Lanarkshire about 1842, you are thinking of the Jessie shown on SP as being born in Stonehouse, parents James Meikle and Barbara Mather???

IGI (LDS submission) show the marriage of James and Barbara as 1 Nov 1835 in Stonehouse and gives James's parents as George Meikle and Janet Hamilton. I don't have any George Meikle's in my tree.

1881 Census shows them living at 5 Lockhart St, Stonehouse, Lanark, Scotland:

James MEIKLE, Silk Weaver aged 71 born Stonehouse, Lanark, Scotland
Barbara MEIKLE aged 69 born Stonehouse, Lanark, Scotland
Barbara M. CROW, unmarried aged 19, granddaughter and daughter of a Power Loom Tenter, born   Stonehouse,
John MEIKLE, unmarried aged 29, Son (Visitor) Warehouseman (Cloth Manufacture) born Stonehouse, Lanark, Scotland

and I don't think these are mine.

If you are thinking of another Jessie Meikle (not the one above), let me know and I will have another look. Also she needn't have been Jessie per se, Jessie was a common pet name for Janet.

regards,

Lindsay

Thank you Lindsay - that's given me another line to check on.

I will need to get back into the research once I finish my studies in the next month.

Thank you for finding that information.
